I am very excited and proud to welcome Dr. Su-Chun Zhang to Chetek this Friday afternoon for a presentation and discussion at the Chetek high school. Dr. Zhang heads the research team at UW's Waisman Center our fundraiser supports. The presentation is open to the public and is a unique opportunity for people to learn more about stem cell research. Following the presentation, Dr. Zhang and I will head to Eau Claire for a brief interview on Channel 13's five o'clock news. It is the efforts of researchers like Dr. Zhang that provide the most hope to me and others with spinal cord injuries and other debilitating conditions. We believe the science holds great promise and we hope that we will soon benefit from all of the hard work of the stem cell research community. Thank you for your interest in our efforts and our cause. I hope you can join us at the presentation this Friday or at the basketball tournament and silent auction November 29. If you see me at either event, please feel free to say hello. I would like to thank you for your interest and your participation and support in person. Thank you, David
This Friday, November 9th, will be a great opportunity for people to learn more about the Waisman Center and their research. At 1 p.m. on Friday, there will be a presentation/discussion at the Senior Center in Chetek featuring Jason Weick, a researcher at the Waisman Center, and Barb McCarthy of the UW Foundation. Jason will explain how the Waisman Center conducts their research, the goals they have and the progress they are making in a format more easily understood then the few paragraphs you may read in the paper or the few seconds you may see on television. Please come if you are available; it promises to be a unique learning opportunity. If you are not able to make it to the presentation, please check out Jason and me on Channel 13's (Eau Claire) five o'clock news. Channel 13 has granted us the opportunity to promote our event on the news in the past, but this will be the first time someone from the Waisman Center will be there to discuss how our contributions are aiding in the advancement of stem cell research. Check us out!
It's hard to believe that our fifth annual basketball tournament and silent auction is right around the corner. Where has the time gone? With the event only a few weeks away our planning committee is busy, but excited to have the opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause. We are off to a good start with some monetary donations and silent auction items already received. I hope all of you enjoyed your summer. I was happy to be able to make it to the GMR offices in Milwaukee for a party and happy to return to Milwaukee later in the summer to take in a Brewers game and hang out with friends. I also went to a friend's cabin in northern Wisconsin for our annual college guy reunion -- it's hard to believe it's been 10 years already. I wrapped up my summer by going to the Wisconsin Badgers football season opener. Throughout the summer I enjoyed several concerts and made a few trips to Chetek to spend time with family. Now that summer has ended, my attention has turned to football season and preparations for this year's basketball tournament and silent auction. I'm confident this year's event will be another success and I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones on November 24th. I hope to see you there! All the best, David
Thanks to the hard work of our planning committee, auction items that we have received to this point have been separated, photographed and posted on the site. Thanks to our generous contributors, we have a wide variety of high-quality auction items this year. Please take the time to view them all and pass along our web site information to anyone you think might be interested in bidding on any of the items or might be interested in helping out in any other way.
Thank you also to TV 13 in Eau Claire for giving us some time on their five o'clock news to promote our event. The attached photo is from Friday's interview with Judy Clark (TV 13), Derek Johnson and I.
I hope all is well with all of you and I hope to see you at the tournament this year.
Thank you, David B.

I'm happy to say that things are moving along nicely in preparation for our 2006 event. Thanks to everyone's hard work, letters have been sent out to previous donors, the school/gyms have been reserved, food and beverage secured, T-shirts ordered, etc. I think we could still use a few volunteers (including referees), but I'm sure we will manage with whatever we have. A handful of donations have already come in. Thanks to those who have donated already this year and thanks to those who are planning to donate. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. My parents and I are heading to Madison this weekend for homecoming and the football game. I am looking forward to the game and to reuniting with some college friends. I hope all is well with all of you. Until next time... David B.
